Coronary Care Unit

The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) also called the Heart Unit was especially designed for  patients with severe cardiac diseases who demand intensive surveillance, with 24 hour care. This CCU was opened in 2002, and among others receives patients with acute myocardial infarction and patients with cardiovascular pathologies who undergo extensive surgery or hemodynamic procedures (catheterism and angioplasty with stent placement).

With nine beds, it is a large unit that is extremely functional with state of the art technology. It has three beds with intensive care support and six suites with hemodynamic monitoring. In them, the patient has more privacy and can enjoy the company of a family member. Even in the more severe cases, family members have access to the patient for as long as they deem necessary. These are moments that strengthen the relationship with the medical and nursing staff, highlighting the philosophy of Clínica São Vicente to offer a more human approach.

Specialized and trained staff

Fully trained cardiologists and a team fully experienced in intensive care are responsible for taking care of the patients.

The nursing staff is constantly being evaluated and receives continuous training, regarding the profile of the patients who are in the Heart Unit. During all the hospitalization period, the staff interacts with the family members and accompanying persons, putting them in contact with the patient’s reality, giving them detailed and precise information.

The assistant physician, who usually treats the patient and knows his/her health history, has free access to the facilities, receives the reports of the coordinating physicians and the physicians on duty and prepares the entire treatment programme together with the intensive care staff. Decisions on the therapy adopted in critical situations are all taken as a group with the presence of the family.
